Cutting the Cord

Cutting the cord has been a topic for a few years now, getting rid of cable but still watching your favorite shows by streaming them through the internet. It was harder in the previous now but now, since we are in 2016, it is easier then every.

Streaming TV

Streaming live TV over the Internet is a new thing that just got announced last year. The first service that got announced is called Sling TV. Sling TV by Dish costs $20 a month with a 7 day free trial and $5 add-on packages. The next service has been announced by Comcast and is only available for Comcast customers. It's a $10 add-on for internet users that allows them to use the XFINITY TV Go app while they're on the internet at home. The next two are not out yet but they are still cool. Both YouTube and Hulu plan to stream live TV in early 2017. Hulu is planning to make their service cost $40 and YouTube $35.

Streaming Services

Okay, this is basically the easiest way and the most known way of cutting cable, paying for a streaming service(Netflix, Hulu, etc.). The most known service is Netflix. Netflix is mostly used for catching up on a season or binge watching. Netflix is also known for waiting until a season is over before uploading all of its shows to its service. Hulu is different, they upload their show to their service a day after it has been aired so that way, when you miss a show, you can watch it the next day. What I really don't know much about is Amazon Prime Video. They mostly post shows that their studio has made or some network shows to it too. You can also buy the show unlike the rest and I think you can buy stuff from most of the big named networks.

Streaming Box

So you can always stream to your phone, tablet or laptop but I think that you want to watch stuff on your big screen, this is where streaming boxes come in. Most of them support the all of the stuff that I said previously and some don't, I am only going to give you a list of the ones that can. The first on and my favorite one is the Chromecast. Okay, the Chromecast is a streaming stick but it still does the same thing as a streaming box but for a cheaper price. It costs $35 and it supports almost everything that I said before except Amazon prime, the cool thing is, it dosen't have a remote. You use your phone as a remote and cast stuff up to the your TV(its available on both iPhone and Android). The next one is also well known, the Roku. There is a few available and the range in pricing, starting a 49.99. The cool thing about Roku is, they have both a streaming stick and Roku TV's on top of streaming boxes so you have a wide variety to choose from. Also, it supports all of the services that I said above. The last on is the Amazon Fire TV, again it supports all of the services that I said and it also has alexa, amazon's voice assistant, built inside. With this you can convert your TV into an Amazon Echo and a streaming TV, isn't that cool?
