How to Turn your 'Smarthome' into an Actual Smarthome

Multiple companies have released smarthome products to consumers like light bulbs, outlets, and thermostats with your smart device. But what really makes me upset is that these companies are failing to tell consumers how to use these products to their full advantage and letting normal, everyday consumers think the only way to control these gadgets with their phones, not making there homes a true smarthome.

Automation

Automation is key if you want to control your home without your smartphone or tablet. By setting everything on a set scheduled for when your leaving you're home or when you're coming home from work you can have your home set at a specific temperature and the lights turn on, but that's not the only thing you can do with automation. With a door sensor you can set a siren to go off or the lights to turn off and with certain products, like the Nest Thermostat, the can learn your habits and set when themselves to turn on or off.

Voice

This one is kinda obvious, the future of controlling your home is with your voice! There are multiple products out and one coming. For example, the Amazon Echo line, Google Assistant (Google home or your phone) and Siri (Your iDevice and the Homepod that's being released later this year.
