Moto Z: The Best Android Phone of 2016

In June of 2016, Motorola at Lenovo Tech World announced their new flagship line, Moto Z. Before I get a little in-depth of the new devices I would like to say that the Moto Z line did not replace the Moto X line, the Moto Z line did replace the Moto X line as the company's flagship, a Moto X device is expected to be released later this year.

Moto Z

The company announces two devices, the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force. Both of the Phones are similar in design but different specs(will put specs under this passage) and thickness. Motorola described the Moto Z as the "World's thinnest premium smartphone" and I don't blame them for saying that. The phone is only 5.2mm. The Moto Z Force a little bit more thicker being 6.9mm. When I first saw this phone there were two things that made this phone appealing to me. This phone does not have a 3.5mm headphone plug and MotoMods. In order to keep this phone thin the company got rid of the headphone plug. This is not the first time of hearing this trend in new smartphones, there's a rumor going around that apple will get rid of the headphone jack too. If you have a bluetooth headset then I recommend using that. If you still use the normal headphones that you plug into the phone, the company said that they would have an adapter for phone if you want to use normal headphones.

Moto Z Specs:

  • 5.5in Quad HD Display
  • 2600 mAH battery(company says 30hr of battery life)
  • Turbo Charging through USB-C
  • FingerPrint sensor
  • 13mp camera
Moto Z Force Specs:
  • 5.5in shatterproof glass
  • 3500 mAH battery(40hr of battery life)
  • 21mp camera

MotoMods

When Motorola announces these devices, they also announced something exclusive to the Moto Z line, MotoMods. Both the Moto Z and the Force are modular. MotoMods are placed on the back of the phone and stay there with strong magnets. For the mods that actually do something to change the experience of the phone, they connect through the array of 16 pins on the back of the phone. The Mods that are available at lunch are the incipio mod that adds 22hrs of battery life to the phone(available with wireless charging), a pico-projector mod and a JBL speaker mod. If you just want something to protect the back of the phone, Motorola is also selling Moto style shells that attaches to the back of the phone.

July 14th

The phone will be available later on in the summer as a verizon exclusive and also branded as a droid exclusive phone. Also, the Moto Z force is a Verizon exclusive phone, just the Moto Z will be available unlocked this fall. Verizon and Motorola have been sending invitations for an event on July 14th to announce the price for both phones and the MotoMods. The official release date of the phone will also be announced too. After the event I will be making another post about the phone's price and launch date.
