Review of the Nokia 6 Amazon Prime Edition

Nokia is well known as the company that makes Windows Phones, but in 2014, Microsoft bought its mobile division after wanting full control of Lumia devices since it’s the line in the  Windows Phone ecosystem. We’re in 2017 and Windows Phone is dying, Microsoft sold Nokia’s mobile division for $350M to Taiwanese Tech company Foxconn and HMD global. Now we have new Nokia devices that run Android instead of Windows Phone and they are surprisingly good.

One of the first new Nokia devices that’s being released in the United States is the Nokia 6, for $229.99 or $179.99 and have ads on the lockscreen. Amazon and Nokia teamed up to announce a Amazon Prime Edition of the device for a cheaper price, but of course you’re going to have to put up with somethings.

Like I said, you can get the device at a discounted price but it’s going to have ads on the lockscreen. Amazon does this to their Fire tablet line in order to keep the price down and they are doing it to phones to help bring their price down. They use the lockscreen as a “billboard” to sell you stuff that’s being sold on Amazon, they also customize what ads show by your Amazon recomendations, but in my testing it sometimes doesn’t work. The ads are on the lockscreen only and it’s not that bad, it doesn’t affect your experience with the device and you can easily dismiss them. Another thing you’re going to have to put up with is bloatware from Amazon, like the Amazon app, Music Unlimited, Instant Video and some more.

The specs for the device is decent for the price, it’s not a high end smartphone. The Nokia 6 has a 5.5in IPS full HD laminated display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, 3 GB of Ram, 32 GB of storage (can expand up to 128 GB with a microSD card), 16 MP rear-facing camera, and 8 MP front-facing camera. The Nokia 6 is an unlocked device but only available on AT&T and T-Mobile networks, if you want a Amazon Prime device that’s available on Sprint and Verizon also then I recommend the Moto E4, Moto G5, and Moto G4. It runs the latest version of Android and is compatible with Google Assistant, Google’s Siri competitor.

The Nokia 6 is available on Amazon for it’s normal price or it’s Prime edition device, Click Here.
