Review: Lenovo Moto Z

The Lenovo Moto Z is the first phone that impressed my in a while

The Lenovo Moto Z is a interest yet attractive device. It's the company's first phone line that has been created by the company ever since Google sold it to Lenovo back in 2014 and it's probably the best thing Lenovo could've done, they trying to branch away from the X line created by Google and showing what Lenovo can do. The major thing the Chinese manufacturer did to make this phone appealing to the consumer market is to implement modularaty in the line.

The Phone

Specs
  • Android 7.0 Nougat
  • 5.5 in QHD amoled display
  • 2600 mAh battery
  • 5.19 mm thin
  • 13 MP rear camera
  • 5 MP front facing camera
  • USB-C
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor (Quad-core)
  • 4GB Ram
  • 32/64 GB Rom
This is one of the thinnest premium smartphones today at 5 mm thin, of course with it being thin you're sacrificing a port, the 3.5 mm headphone jack. It does include the USB-C adapter but everyone. If you use Bluetooth headphone you're not going to miss anything. Lenovo says that you can get 30 hours worth of battery life but with my testing I'm barely making it through the day, I see myself either charging it or put a battery mod around 5 PM.

Moto Mods

The selling point of this phone is its modular accessories. At the lower back of the phone is a 16 pin grid that connects the phone to accessories called Moto Mods with magnets. There are only a few out right now including a projector, point and shoot camera, speaker, and battery mods. Motorola plans to release 12 mods this year (four per quarter). Lenovo has even teased a few at MWC, a Amazon Echo Mod, Wireless Charging style shell, and a Game Controllers that stores games on the controller. They even previewed concept devices like a photo printer and a tablet.

Android 7.0

This phone now comes with Android 7.0 Nougat so you get the latest features from the latest version of the OS. The best feature is Google Daydream. The Moto Z was the first phone that is not from Google that supports the VR platform.
